COORDINATION OF CARE FOR CHILDREN WITH ASTHMA

Assessing exacerbation risk, supporting preventive medicine compliance and responding to
acute progression to loss of asthma control can be a significant patient management
challenge. This talk will discuss strategies that local and state groups have used to partner in
simplifying these challenges.

A: MEDICATIONS IN PEDIATRIC ASTHMA
presented by Alison Grisso, Pharm.D.
Evidence based national guidelines (Expert Panel Report-3) outline medications to
use depending on asthma classification and control. Dr. Grisso will review these as well as
the devices for best delivery of inhaled medications.
B: HOW TO BREATHE WITH EASE
presented by John Fischer, RRT, EMT-A, C-NPT
Asthma attacks are common pediatric emergencies. Mr. Fisher will review the signs and
symptoms of asthma attacks in children, appropriate treatments, and when and how to
transport. He will also touch on what occurs in the ED once the child arrives.
C: OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA AND ASTHMA
presented by Mohammed Fazili, MD
Dr. Fazili will discuss the significance of obstructive sleep apnea in children with asthma.
He will discuss signs and symptoms and review the evaluation of OSA and various
treatments.
